This yearŐs festivalwill include many activities and programs specifically tailored for children,all aimed at helping them to learn about and care for our environment and world,including: puppet shows and puppet-making workshops, making and racing solarbottle boats, veggie derby races, compiling herb starts to be taken home andplanted, making art from reusable materials.

 

Mudeye PuppetCompany - Puppet Making Workshop

Saturday,September 6, 2 - 4 p.m. 

The Mudeye PuppetCompany is an educational puppetry arts organization dedicated to providingesteem-building arts workshops, reducing waste, encouraging creativity throughuse of reused materials.  Childrenwill be able to make their own puppets using a variety of materials.

Saturday,September 6, 12 and 2 p.m.

Kurt Scheuermann willbe giving a demonstration on solar cooking with his solar cooker oven.  Children are invited to participate inthis hands-on demonstration.

 

Talk About Trees– Paper Making

Saturday andSunday, September 6 & 7

Talk About Trees willbe at the festival both days teaching kids how to make paper.

Talk About Trees aimsto educate kids on the responsible management and use of our forest resources.

 

Audubon Society ofPortland/Birds of Prey

Saturday andSunday, September 6 & 7

Get up close andpersonal with birds of prey from the Audubon Society of Portland: Julio theGreat Horned Owl, Jack the American Kestrel, Hazel the Northern Spotted Owl,and Finnegan the Peregrine Falcon. YouŐll learn about the unique adaptations that make birds of preyawesome predators, including natural history information on the species andeach birdŐs special story.  All ofthese educational birds came into the Wildlife Care Center with an injury orproblem that prevents them from being released back into the wild. YouŐll leavewith a greater appreciation for the birds that can be found in Portland and thePacific Northwest.

Tryon Life CommunityFarms – Cob Sculptures

Saturday andSunday, September 6 & 7

will be at the festivalboth days with a hands on cob making and sculpting activity.  Tryon Life Community Farm is acollective which focuses on natural building to environmental law, gardeningand food preservation to community activism, permaculture farming tomulti-media artisans. They have developed an interdisciplinary and experientialeducational program designed to build critical reflection, collaborativeskills, and practical training in the art and science of social and ecologicalresponsibility.

 

Penny Walter/PennyŐsPuppet Productions

Sunday, September7, 1:30 p.m. and 3:30 p.m.

PennyŐs imaginativepuppet shows take children on a magical, musical journey, packed full ofcomedy, laughter and audience participation. Her shows blur the boundariesbetween fantasy and reality to create a fun, make-believe world where anythingcan happen and usually does. She stimulates the imagination while developingawareness and appreciation of the similarities of all people (and puppets!).Penny will perform the following shows at the festival:

Super DonkeySaves the Day!

Super Donkey is out tomake the World the Best Place it can be. Help him teach others how to Re-duce,Reuse and Recycle.

Scouts GrandAdventure

Scout is an Ant who is in charge of finding a new homefor the rest of his ant hill.

He's out to find a newplace for all the ants to live but meets with some challenges.

Scout never looses hisbelief in himself and makes some good friends on the way.
